So…this year because we’re back and forth to the home site so much and it’s a good hour and a half drive on a good day, we couldn’t be assed to cut and haul a tree home. So what did we do for holiday decorations? We cut limbs, made some garlands, and presto instant Christmas vibes.

And if that wasn’t enough, I made ornaments. I had a few packages of white sculpey laying around. (Somehow it’s still good?!) And with that and a few tools in hand I sculpted and baked a few ornaments. Nothing crazy complex. I made some acorns (NOT very PNW of me), a sprig of holly, and a mushroom similar in shape to our lovely purple ones we found in November.

I’m going to do a few in the shape of some of the very ephemeral very pale ones we get on dying sticks in winter but I spent an evening doing these and ran out of time. Maybe it’ll be my Christmas Eve project.
I know the Holly isn’t actually native but it’s a fly over plant that can’t be killed via shade so I’m afraid it’s here to stay in the PNW. As much as I wish it wouldn’t. Also, the form is nice and simple to produce so my non-expert sculptor hands can handle it.
May all your holidays be as stress-free and easy as ours were this year!
